Birthday Rose

I captured this image of a red rose on February 24th, 2021. This rose was part of my mom's birthday bouquet. I used an on-camera external flash unit as a balanced light source to illuminate the rose while using a high shutter speed to keep the background dark in order to isolate the rose and make it more prominent. I wanted to photograph this rose because of the interesting way the layers of petals overlap and form random patterns within the rose, as well as casting shadows in the rose itself. I also wanted to capture the fine details of the petals that flash exposed, too.

Printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper and is unframed. Limited to 300 productions per size.

Available in 20" x 16", 30" x 24", 40" x 30", and 50" x 40" sizes.
